The LTE USIM is a trusted operator anchor in every LTE/SAE terminal. All LTE/SAE services are based on the high level of security of the USIM card which operates as a secure environment for sensitive applications and data residing in any device used in an open access network. Compared to conventional 3G USIM or GSM SIM which have been used in mobile handsets for more than 20 years, LTE USIM brings new enhanced features both for mobile operators and subscribers.
UICC platform hosts GSM SIM application to ensure backward compatibility as well as USIM application and the ISIM (IP Multimedia Services Identity Module) – which provides access to the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) via any IP access network. The ISIM enhances interoperability, fully replaces USIM or CSIM (CDMA Subscriber Identity Module) applications and facilitates the provisioning of important parameters across all mobile terminals. It provides a set of IMS security data and functions for IMS access: mutual authentication and key agreement, provisioning and GBA for IMS-based services. Other NAA applications such as USIM, CSIM (CDMA SIM) or SIM are provided to guarantee the interoperability with older handsets.
CellSIM USIM LTE provides enhanced OTA features. In addition to conventional SMS-based OTA technology and enhanced CAT-TP protocol which makes use of packet data interface such as HSPA or GPRS, CellSIM USIM LTE supports Over-the-Air interfaces based on HTTS/TLS standard. Support of HTTPS/TLS makes CellSIM LTE a truly IP network-connected device.
In addition to 2FF form factor known as SIM plug-in module, CellSIM LTE is provided in 3FF (micro-SIM) and 4FF (nano-SIM) form factors.
