Modern cellular networks impose extended technical requirements for subscriber identification modules and CellSIM USIM LTE is our solution to address them. It was specifically designed for LTE networks, supports all new ETSI requirements up to Release 8 and different authentication schemes for IP networks.

The LTE USIM is a trusted operator anchor in every LTE/SAE terminal. All LTE/SAE services are based on the high level of security of the USIM card which operates as a secure environment for sensitive applications and data residing in any device used in an open access network. Compared to conventional 3G USIM or GSM SIM which have been used in mobile handsets for more than 20 years, LTE USIM brings new enhanced features both for mobile operators and subscribers.

New Network Access Applications

UICC platform hosts GSM SIM application to ensure backward compatibility as well as USIM application and the ISIM (IP Multimedia Services Identity Module) – which provides access to the IMS (IP Multimedia Subsystem) via any IP access network. The ISIM enhances interoperability, fully replaces USIM or CSIM (CDMA Subscriber Identity Module) applications and facilitates the provisioning of important parameters across all mobile terminals.  It provides a set of IMS security data and functions for IMS access: mutual authentication and key agreement, provisioning and GBA for IMS-based services. Other NAA applications such as USIM, CSIM (CDMA SIM) or SIM are provided to guarantee the interoperability with older handsets.

Extended OTA features

CellSIM USIM LTE provides enhanced OTA features. In addition to conventional SMS-based OTA technology and enhanced CAT-TP protocol which makes use of packet data interface such as HSPA or GPRS, CellSIM USIM LTE supports Over-the-Air interfaces based on HTTS/TLS standard. Support of HTTPS/TLS makes CellSIM LTE a truly IP network-connected device.

New form factors

In addition to 2FF form factor known as SIM plug-in module, CellSIM LTE is provided in 3FF (micro-SIM) and 4FF (nano-SIM) form factors.

New configuration and personalization features

3GPP Release 8/9 supported by CellSIM LTE provides extended configuration features such as:

  • Evolved Packet System (EPS) Network Authentication. Parameters are configured and stored on the LTE USIM;
  • i-WLAN access. New I-WLAN file system is defined to control interaction with non-secure WLAN networks;
  • Full 3GPP/3GPP2 interworking and support of multimode handsets. In order to support 3GPP2 Mobile Networks CDMA requirements are taken into accoun;
  • Extended Authentication protocol (EAP). Upgrade of original ETSI TS 102 310 specification is provided so that LTE USIM can support EAP authentication capabilities;
  • Femtocell (HeNB) provisioning Information. LTE USIM implements the storage of user H(e)NB parameters and operator H(e)NB parameters which take precedence over the ones store in the Mobile Equipment;
  • Extension of PLMN List with Access Technology to LTE. Mobile shall check the content of the right PLMN to attach the network and LTE USIM may have the list of reachable radio technology in the prefered order.
  • Emergency call informations including medical parameters.

New means for provisioning of operator services

SIM has always been a place for trusted operator services and applications. CellSIM LTE enhances such possibilities by introduction of SCWS v. 1.1.- Smart Card Web Server. CellSIM LTE can store a browser which make the navigation of end-user centric applications easy and intuitive. This brings the end-user experience more in line with the use of the Internet while at the same time rendering the applications according to the capabilities of the mobile device.

Additionally Java Card USIM API provides support for the new SIM Toolkit functionality defined in the new releases such as: SG cell selection Event, Call control on EPS PDN connection by USIM, Network Rejection Event, Geographical Location Request,  EPS support for OPEN CHANNEL BIP.
