S@T Browser is an open specification of dynamic SIM Toolkit standard created and supported by SIM Alliance. The Browser can be seen as a universal SIM Toolkit application implemented for creation of value-added services.

Main tasks :

  • displaying dynamic menus
  • getting user input to send / receive information via a number of different bearers (SMS,USSD,GPRS)
  • enabling user initiated access to Internet services (dynamic server side applications)

Browser interprets byte coded SATML/WML decks and communicates them via STK commands to the handset. This is a very flexible alternative to other similar SIM Toolkit solutions such as SmartTrust WIB or proprietary dynamic SIM toolkit applications (DSTK). As an alternative to static SIM toolkit applications with a fixed pre-installed menu, dynamic SIM toolkit solution makes it possible to generate menus and user dialogs on the fly. SIM applications that provide this functionality are generally referred to as SIM browsers or µ-browsers.

Cellnetrix provides SIM Alliance browser implementation which complies to the recent Release 2009 specification .

The S@T specifications are open and therefore allow the operator a choice of supplier for both the S@T gateway and S@T enabled cards.

Benefits of the browser

Benefits of combining Java and S@T Technology

  • Browser functionality can be easily extended by means of plug-ins developed by third parties
  • Plug-ins can be downloaded over-the-air
  • Static functionality provided by Java applets and dynamic provided by the browser can be easily combined in one service
  • Service development can be simplified

Wireless Internet Browser is a de-facto industry standard for implementation of SIM-based value added services using conventional SIM Toolkit.

The Wireless Internet Browser (WIB) is specified by G&D (former SmartTrust) and is the market leading solution for SIM toolkit based browsing.

The complete solution which includes a special gateway called the Wireless Internet Gateway (WIG) uses short messages to communicate with SIM-based WIB application. Together, WIB and WIG enable the user to access WML pages from any handset. The WIB enabled SIM has a menu stored on the SIM. This menu can be managed and updated using Over The Air (OTA) services, often referred to as Remote File Management (RFM). On the contrary to SIM Alliance solution, G&D offers a certification program to ensure high level of interoperability.

Cellnetrix provides WIB 1.3 browser application complying with the most recent specifications which can be delivered on any CellSIM SIM or USIM configuration starting from 64K.

As an alternative to static SIM toolkit applications with a fixed pre-installed menu, some operators opt for dynamic SIM toolkit, where the menus and user dialogs are generated on the fly based on information provided by a central server.

Benefits of WIB 1.3 browser

  • Industry proven and certified solution
  • High level of interoperability
  • Highly secure: symmetric security schemes for signature and ciphering
  • Available on several CellSIM OS configurations
  • Can be used standalone without the WIG

Benefits of using WIB 1.3 browser in Cellnetrix CellSIM OS

Dynamic SIM Toolkit (DSTK) is a second generation of SIM Toolkit technology which allows creation on the SIM-card a dynamic SIM menu which can be updated via Over-The-Air or customized to particular needs of the subscriber.

Owing to this technology, the subscribers always can find something new in the conventional SIM menu and browse his/her menu without any limits because a dynamic part of the menu doesn't occupy SIM-card memory and can be bigger than standard SIM menu. With the ability to flexibly configure the menu‚ mobile operators can offer subscribers a choice of services contained in the SIM menu itself. This means the user can create a list of services that fully meets his or her needs.

Cellnetrix provides a set of various Dynamic SIM Toolkit applets for different CellSIM OS configurations. Applications provide an easy way to access wide range of services (SMS, USSD, voice, wap etc.) from the SIM toolkit menu with the easy navigation.

Using this technology operators have the flexibility to manage the list of services in SIM menu depending on the subscriber's preferences and market conditions even on issued SIM-cards.

Main features:

  • Virtually 99% of the handsets are covered, services will be available almost in any handset
  • SIM Services are easily updatable by means of OTA
  • Different menu profiles: prepaid, post-paid or even location-based services could be supported automatically
  • Optional support for graphic icons and other enhanced SIM toolkit features

It is possible to cover the complete subscriber base with a single application manageable in the single way via OTA. There is no need to support different (U)SIM profiles and test the application with different manufacturers:it can be tested once, run everywhere and easily updated after the issuance under full operator control.

DSTK Applications are delivered on top of CellSIM OS or for 3rd party SIM cards providing:
